The Magic Mushroom Dispensery

The Magic Mushroom Dispensery

The magic mushroom dispensary, as the storefront is known, is the latest of many to open in downtown Vancouver, where residents are experimenting with “micro-dosing” — taking small amounts of the hallucinogenic drug psilocybin, which can produce spiritual experiences and a distorted sense of time. While Canadian law makes possession of psilocybin illegal, shops and online sellers operate in a legal grey area.

A co-op member who asked to be identified only by her first name, says she has seen a significant increase in customer interest since last year’s raid on Fun Guyz, which saw police seize tens of thousands of dollars worth of mushrooms and other drugs. The store has already reopened, and plans are in place to open two more locations. “We are operating a medical protest,” she said, adding that the business was also inspired by the success of cannabis stores in Canada.

Beyond the High: The Therapeutic Benefits of Magic Mushroom Therapy

In the US, a growing number of people are consuming the mushroom psychedelic to treat depression and PTSD. Some are even buying mushrooms to help with their addictions, such as heroin and cocaine, and a few states have passed laws allowing regulated sales.

While consuming mushrooms can be therapeutic, it’s important to know the risks. The federal government warns that they can cause a person to see, hear or feel things that aren’t there and lead to anxiety, fear, nausea and muscle twitches. To reduce the chances of a bad trip, a person should only consume psilocybin-containing mushrooms in a safe and supportive environment.
